Evgenia Makarova in her studio in Aylesbury, unrolling a large work on canvas. Contemporary abstract artist.

Evgenia Makarova (b. 1984) is a contemporary abstract artist based in Aylesbury, United Kingdom.

Working in acrylic and oil, she builds surfaces where colour behaves as movement rather than form. These fields are then challenged: a line drawn across them, a structure imposed, a mark that resists the atmosphere it inhabits. Neither the field nor the structure is allowed to win.

The paintings are stopped before they resolve. What remains is the argument itself, left open.

Born in Russia, Makarova moved to the United Kingdom in 2023 after receiving endorsement from Arts Council England. Her work has been shown in Vienna, Athens, London, Mexico City and Moscow, and is held in private collections across Europe and the United States.
